Find a self storage facility in Maryland Near you

Maryland Self Storage
Other countries around the world recognize Americans for their
large amounts of cargo which they insist on carrying with them as they travel
to other destinations. This stereotype
has been around for centuries, and its only getting worse.
Americans continue to purchase things they don’t
need, can’t afford or don’t have space for them. Some of us find it hard to part with items we
have collected over the years due to the strong sentimental values we place on
them, others feel the need to prove a status to their peers by buying certain
products. Due to this conflict, it
becomes harder to move all your stuff from one place to another.
As we have done in the past and will continue to do for all of time, we find solutions to our problems, in this case Self Storage. Self-Storage facilities are popping up all across our nation allowing us to have more space in our homes. Since these facilities are becoming so widespread, it gives flexibility to people who can’t seem to “let go” of their collectables, allowing them to relocate to a place the dreamed of living, or one that is more affordable.
Another plus to these self-storage units may apply to parents who have children who plan on attending college. When I left for school my parents couldn’t wait to hand me down their old furniture so they could redecorate their home. Thinking back on it now, it may have been easier to find a Maryland self storage unit where I could drop off the furniture as I went up for visits here and there for orientation, which would have made moving in day much easier (especially since it started raining the day I moved in).
To help others with this problem I am providing the top 5 tips for moving, storing, and packing I wish I would have known before I moved into my new home.
Move It
6-8 weeks before moving start making a list of items you plan on moving to your new home and items you wish to take to storage, do some research to select a professional moving company, and discuss costs, packing, timing and other necessary details with them.
4-5 weeks before moving contact the post office and fill out a USPS change of address form, Register your children in their new schools.
2-4 weeks before moving contact utility companies, start moving items to your self-storage unit, don’t forget items in basements, attics, and closets, and start packing items you don’t currently need.
1 week before moving continue to move items to your storage space, disassemble your computer and back up important computer files, and make sure your items are labeled: “fragile”, “load first”, “load last”, and ‘do not load'.
On moving out day be there to direct the movers, and thoroughly check your closets, drawers, shelves, attic, and garage. Finish up by making sure to turn off all the switches and lock all doors and windows.
Store it
1. Place items you’ll need often at the front of the unit.
2. When you pack your storage unit, create a center aisle for easy access to all items.
3. Do not place boxes directly on concrete floors, but use pallets or skids to allow air flow around and under items.
4. Always use high quality locks on your unit. Locks are available for sale, just ask your site manager for a recommendation.
5. Common sense and state law determines what may be stored. Therefore, never store firearms, illicit drugs or drug paraphernalia, live animals, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquids and fuels, toxic materials, or other items that need a controlled environment.
Packaging it
1. Label Boxes
2. Seal Tightly
3. Clean and dry appliances before storing
4. Pack Heavier Items in Smaller Boxes
5. Use a lot of Paper
Storage units are there for your convenience and may be an affordable solution to your clutter or moving problems. Find a MD self storage unit near you.
